Biography

There is so much more to us than our “failures” and our wounds – if only we can get out of our way long enough to see this. I have found plant medicines invaluable for helping me get past entrenched ways of thinking and acting: patterns I have built to protect myself – but that get in the way of true healing. There have been times in my own life when music and art seemed like my best counsellors. They helped me feel whole and connected to life when everything else seemed to be falling apart. Where words fail, the arts have been there to express the inexpressible. Through this, I have developed a lifelong interest in the therapeutic power of music and art. Working with expressive arts are a powerful way to prepare for medicine work and integrate the learning from them.

It took me many attempts at different careers before finding my calling in medicine and mental health. I am now a counsellor based in Victoria, BC. I’m registered with both the Canadian Counselling & Psychotherapy Association and the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors. I am committed to life-long learning in modalities that will support medicine work – including Guided Imagery & Music and expressive art-making.

How I work with clients

Psychedelic experiences can run the whole gamut: they can be mystical, life-changing and empowering to, conversely, experiences that leave one feeling frightened and destabilized. Sometimes they’re confusing, disappointing, or seemingly unremarkable. Using music, sound and expressive arts in a supportive setting, we work together to make sense of your experiences so you can integrate the learning to be gained from them.

Biography

I chose to pursue a career in psychotherapy after experiencing the extraordinary effects that it had on my own life. For a sustained period, I lived within a cloud of confusion and fear; having no hope for the future. Through the process of therapy, I discovered how to confront my challenges, face difficult decisions with confidence, and adopt an authentic mode of living. Through my own suffering, I have developed a passion for helping others, and remain ever increasingly inspired by the success of many individuals.

Outside of my practice, I spend my time playing jazz music, playing soccer, and hiking with my German Shepherd, Bongo. I also have an interest in philosophy and enjoy reading and writing.

Biography

I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor and Registered Speech-Language Pathologist. I have a Master’s degree in Counselling from City University of Seattle and a Master’s in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology from Loma Linda University. I have worked in the school system for 12 years helping children overcome communication challenges. I have recent experience counselling adults struggling with substance use and a variety of mental health challenges. I currently work in private practice where I support people in their journey toward emotional healing, personal exploration, and self-discovery. I co-facilitate a monthly psychedelic integration group and am involved in the MAPS MDMA-Assisted Psychotherapy Phase III study in Vancouver, B.C.

I use a collaborative, trauma-informed, and integrative approach. I offer a safe and accepting space for those who may be curious about, preparing for, or have previously experienced altered states of consciousness. I recognize that psychedelic experiences can sometimes be confusing and disorienting and I believe that integration is important to understand and process challenging feelings that may emerge. I can also help you introduce grounding and self-care practices into your life and empower you to integrate new insights and ‘teachings.’

During integration counseling, I take an integrative approach which can include one or more psychotherapeutic modalities. I work largely in a psychodynamic, existential manner with a strong focus mindfulness practices. By using one’s transpersonal and/or psychedelic experience as a starting point, together with my client, we work to make sense of their experience, understand how their past may be influencing their life today, how they make sense of, and derive meaning from life, so they can bolster their resilience when faced with future challenging experiences.

Counseling sessions are often conversational in style, with a focus on growth, change and living a meaningful life.
