Services Offered: Individual, psychedelic integration (individuals), trauma-focused psychotherapy, substance use disorder counseling, treatment planning, holistic approaches, mind-body therapy, psychodynamic therapy, career counseling

Sessions: Telehealth & In person (Melbourne, Australia)

Biography

Fundamentally, my personal experience in psychotherapy stems from my own self-analysis; the slow breakdown and re-authoring of past traumas, thoughts, and maladaptive beliefs by using learned cognitive-behavioral techniques, releasing emotional blocks, and pushing myself through fears via exposure work.

I have battled severe anxiety, depression and drug addiction. I have felt the joy from being in love and the gut-wrenching agony from heartbreak; ridden the highs of social success and the lows of interpersonal isolation. As I’ve worked through many of these issues and have grown older (and hopefully wiser), I have come to realise that much of my life’s struggles are underlined by existential concerns and the search for a deeper meaning / purpose in life.

My own extensive experience with MDMA, psilocybin, LSD, ayahuasca, ketamine and DMT; through recreational use, self-experimentation, guided healing and shamanic ceremonies, can be used to assist your psychedelic process. My deep rooted belief in the healing potential of these medicines, together with the understanding of transpersonal psychology, shamanic rituals, set, setting, preparation and integration, can become a part of the support framework as you undertake your own journey with psychedelics; offering an open minded, judgement-free, compassionate and confidential solution.

How I work with clients

I aim to help my clients alter their thoughts and schemas, explore and resolve past traumas and anxieties, as well as meaningfully interpret and re-author their life narratives. I believe that everyone’s identity needs to be underwritten with well-established personal truths, ideas, values and that almost any of life’s obstacles can be overcome if a person is true to their purpose, morals and love.

As a practicing therapist, I constantly try to shift my focus between subjectivity and objectivity to attempt to feel as you do, as well as attain external insight. I see therapy not as “doctor-patient” scenario but rather as two colleagues tackling a problem together. The aim is to connect with you on an emotional /intellectual/experiential and/or spiritual level, therefore allowing your issues to be explored with a level of subjectivity and always with a high degree of compassionate understanding.

Clinical Psychologist

Specialties: Trauma

Services Offered: Individual, psychedelic integration (individuals), trauma-focused psychotherapy

Sessions: Online & In person (Scarsdale, NY)

Biography

I was an English major in college, but after working as a psychiatric aide at Yale-New Haven Hospital, I became fascinated with psychotherapy and shifted my academic goals from literature to psychology. I attended Wesleyan University and New York University, where I obtained my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. Over the years I have come to see that almost all psychological symptoms represent the legacy of a traumatic experience, or multiple traumatic experiences. I have worked in a variety of settings with various at risk populations, including urban youth, people afflicted with HIV/AIDS, first responders, and veterans. I have training in hypnosis, biofeedback, and EMDR. Early in my career I was very involved in research in neuropsychology (you can find my articles on PubMed). I have been living in Westchester County, NY for 25+ years and my wife and I raised our two (now adult) children here, My practice is in Scarsdale.

How I work with clients

As noted above, I believe that most psychological symptoms are due to overwhelming stressful experiences that remain unresolved over time. I have seen too many patients who have been on anti-depressants for five years or more, who have essentially dissociated from their past and are living in a state of emotional numbness. The reason for keeping them on medication is well-meaning – to prevent a relapse. But the effect is to disempower them, and they come to believe that they cannot be an effective agent in determining their own destiny. I believe that if you are having painful emotions, these emotions are real and connected to past experiences. Our goal is to find those connections and help you to process them, so there are no lingering effects of traumatic experiences. Learning from experience means to have the experience, process it, and come to a new understanding about the world and yourself. This is how we acquire wisdom. And “it is wisdom which seeks wisdom.”

Services Offered: Individual, group, psychedelic integration (individuals), psychedelic integration (groups), pre- and post-ritual counseling, ketamine treatment, holistic approaches, mind-body therapy, mindfulness training

Sessions: Telehealth & In-person (Asheville, North Carolina)

Biography

I received my PhD in clinical psychology from Pacific Graduate School of Psychology in Palo Alto, California in 2009, and my studies were heavily focused in neuropsychology. Most of my clinical training in graduate school was with veterans suffering from trauma and brain injuries, as well as older veterans. My Internship was at the Salt Lake City VA Hospital, and I had pretty wide-ranging clinical rotations, including inpatient psychiatry, physical medicine, primary care, outpatient trauma, and pain management. My postdoctoral work was at Kaiser Health’s Chronic Pain Management Program in San Francisco, California, and I have a lot of familiarity helping individuals with complex health issues, migraines, and ongoing pain. I have been in licensed practice in North Carolina since 2011, and I’ve been in private practice since 2013.

Prior to all this, I grew up in Asheville and went to undergrad at UNC-Chapel Hill, where I studied Anthropology and Chemistry. I have a background in contemplative practices, and have enjoyed meditation, martial arts, and yoga for many years, which had partly led me into the professional practice of psychology. I also enjoy hiking, traveling, and reading, and I’ve recently been giving various workshops related to Meditation and Neuroscience, Chronic Pain Management, and Positive Psychology.

How I work with clients

As a licensed psychologist, I consider it my responsibility to help my clients become unstuck from particularly difficult circumstances and have the courage and self-compassion to make changes in their lives. To this end, I primarily use behavioral treatments that strongly emphasize acceptance of one’s current experience, the development of mindfulness, and dedication to one’s values. I also frequently use biofeedback and neurofeedback (including ultra low frequency training) as methods to help relax and stabilize physiology.

My clinical specialties include helping patients with chronic pain/migraines), brain injuries, those adjusting to serious illness, and those interested in experiencing transformational states through the use ketamine assisted therapy. However, as a generalist, I frequently help people seeking any form of behavior change, including those with mood disorders, excess/post-traumatic stress, addictions, and anyone seeking a different relationship with a mind that may be unkind.

Biography

Dr. Ryan is a board certified psychiatrist and addiction psychiatrist practicing on the west side of Los Angeles. He attended UC Irvine for medical school, went on to UCLA-SFV for psychiatry residency, and then University of Washington for an addiction psychiatry fellowship. During his training he started researching ketamine as a legal psychedelic with healing potential, going on to author several articles and a book chapter, as well as giving talks on the subject, eventually starting a clinic where he provides ketamine assisted psychotherapy along with other mental health services. Additionally, he has worked in various research settings, accumulating published articles and presentations on such topics as ketamine for treatment resistant depression, cannabis, psychedelics, club drugs, hallucinogens, and addiction.

Through his diverse experiences and training in both pharmacology and psychotherapy, Dr. Ryan’s approach integrates individually tailored medication management, therapeutic interventions, and lifestyle changes with novel treatment options, in an empathic, non-judgmental, safe space, effectively helping clients find their motivation for change and improvement. He has applied these principles in those with PTSD and other anxiety disorders, depression, bipolar disorder, psychotic disorders, and substance use disorders. He is well versed in psychodynamic psychotherapy and particularly enjoys working with individuals in helping them achieve meaningful personal growth.

How I work with clients

I see clients at my private practice office in Marina Del Rey, in a comfortable environment overlooking the water. While I specialize in the use of ketamine to augment psychotherapy, I also provide non-psychedelic services and consultations to many, where I integrate the latest knowledge in psychotherapy, psychopharmacology, non medical interventions, evidence based medicine, and vitamin/nutrient repletion.

I offer people a tailor made treatment plan, drawing from a wide variety of treatment options as everyone is different. Ketamine sessions are typically ninety minutes in duration, administered via the intramuscular route, and take place after an initial hour long evaluation, initially in a series of six sessions over approximately 3-4 weeks transitioning to less frequent maintenance visits. More information is available on my website.

Biography

I completed my undergraduate degree at Florida State University, and followed that with a Masters of Science in Clinical Mental Health at Stetson University, where I was a two-time recipient of the George Hood Scholarship for academic excellence in the Stetson University Counseling Masters Program. I am also an active member of Chi Sigma Iota Counseling Honors Society, the American Counseling Association (ACA) and the Association of Spiritual, Ethical, and Religious Values in Counseling (ASERVIC). I am a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) and hold my practice up to the ethical and professional standards set forth by all the listed associations. I have presented on Stetson University’s campus on Robert Fowler’s Theory of Spiritual Development and the expressive technique of Spiritual LifeMaps. And as a supplement to my Clinical Mental Health degree, I also hold certification as Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) with the International Association of Trauma Professionals. I am driven to provide the most effective and well-researched approach to treating the impact trauma has on the neurobiology and integrative health of my clients.

Outside of formal academia, I’m also a Certified Yoga Teacher affiliated with the Baptiste Power Yoga approach, and currently teach yoga in the Orlando area. My experience as a leader in the Central Florida wellness community inspires my personal and professional identity as an integrative mental health therapist.

Additionally, I hold Certification in Food, Nutrition and Health from University of Central Florida, and promote the connection between mental health and dietary habits. My Masters Research involved an exploration into nutritional psychiatry, the detrimental psychological effects of a poor diet and the conversely beneficial effects of a nutritionally robust diet. Both personally and professionally, I honor the connection between mind, body, and spirit, and find that exploring the complete lifestyle of a client often leads to otherwise unknown access points for clinical intervention.

I was born in Orlando, Florida and have always been passionate about The Sunshine State. I love spending my free time outside exploring the countless beautiful springs, hiking trails, and waterways that Florida has to offer. I am interested in all things food and often find myself in the kitchen when not outside. I enjoy reading popular fiction and seeing any and all movies that I can, even a guilty pleasure rom-com every now and then. I am a self-professed dog freak and a huge fan of anything furry and four-legged. Lastly, I am a fitness fanatic (yoga, cycling, swimming, etc.) and find pleasure in any activity that gets me moving!

How I work with clients

My theoretical orientation is cemented in an Integrative Counseling theory. Establishing a therapeutic alliance that creates a holding space for exploration into a client’s presenting issues is a paramount focus of my practice. Discovering a client’s strengths as they relate to concrete skill and functional aspects of personality is also a therapeutic focus. It is only in increasing strengths that we are able to decrease the impact of our more dysfunctional characteristics and behaviors. In regards to therapeutic intervention, I ascribe to the empirically validated and clinically tested techniques of Mindfulness Based Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (MBCT & ACT), Narrative Therapy, Trauma-Informed Interventions and Gestalt “here-and-now” experiments.

My professional identity as it relates to a way of understanding mental health pathology is aligned with Existential Theory. If the client struggles with issues relating to spiritual or religious identity I am uniquely positioned to explore the functionality and strength in one’s spiritual and/or religious life.  I bring to the therapeutic alliance a therapist who is passionate about positive change in both my personal life and the lives of my clients. I provide a therapeutic environment that is safe, accepting and compassionately challenging in order to provoke positive change. My understanding of holistic lifestyle interventions allows for far reaching possibilities for collaboratively discovering ways to live a more fulfilling and enjoyable life. I believe in the power of congruence and “practicing what I preach” mentally, physically and spiritually.
